High Growth Region Provides High Quality Workforce
As one of the fastest growing areas in Canada, York Region continues to add between 15,000 to 20,000 jobs each year.
At year end 2006, there were approximately 460,000 jobs in the Region. This growth is a reflection of the increased workforce of existing enterprises but more significantly an increase in the number of new enterprises to the Region. By 2026, it is forecasted that the Region will have approximately 696,000 jobs and provincial forecasts indicate that this number will increase to 780,000 by 2031.
York Region's population is one of the youngest, highly skilled and best educated in all of Canada.
Of York Region adults between the ages of 25 to 64, 61.2% have post-secondary education. This rating is higher than both the national and provincial averages and is a key reason for the establishment and growth of many new technology-based companies in York Region. The growth in the number of enterprises within professional, scientific and technical services positions the Region to compete in the global economy which is increasingly driven by knowledge-based enterprise.
