The Regional Municipality of York will host a symposium for the Region’s manufacturers on Monday, March 8th. At this symposium, Ipsos Reid, a Canadian survey-based market research firm, will review the results of the York Region Manufacturers Survey. The symposium runs from 8:30am to 1:30pm and there is no fee to attend.
A panel discussion on the future of York Region’s manufacturing sector, including its risks, opportunities and developmental needs, will follow. Click here for the agenda.
“Manufacturing is a vital component of York Region's economy,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “Our goal is to ensure sustainability of the manufacturing sector and its workforce into the future.”
Ipsos Reid conducted more than 300 interviews with manufacturers and delivered a report in the fall of 2009. The findings reveal significant insight on 92 key performance indicators from 301 York Region manufacturers.
“Our survey was designed to assess the comparative strengths and strategic issues faced by manufacturing businesses in the Region,” said Town of East Gwillimbury Mayor James Young, Chair of the Region’s Planning and Economic Development Committee. “Our discussions will benefit manufacturers across the Region.”
Conclusions from this symposium will highlight the priority actions needed to support the Region’s manufacturing sector, which include 17 per cent of the Region's diverse business sectors and 75,000 jobs.
Through a series of consultation sessions, reports and workshops, York Region will work with manufacturers in partnership with municipal, provincial and federal stakeholders to identify new opportunities for investment strategies in the manufacturing sector.
The event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 3201 Highway 7 in the City of Vaughan. There is no cost to attend the half-day symposium, which includes lunch. Space is limited. To secure your seat, please RSVP to Peggy Morton at 905 830-4444 Ext. 1512 or 1-877-464-9675 or peggy.morton@york.ca
